Content violation is defined as sending messages in violation of the rules in the Code of Conduct, and are usually SHAFT violations (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco) but would also include spam or phishing, or messaging that meets the threshold of a Severity 0 violation per the CTIA Short Code Monitoring Handbook. |
Update — tiered Sev-0 non-compliance fines (effective January 1, 2024)
T-Mobile moved content violations to a tiered Severity-0 structure applying to all messaging paths (10DLC, toll-free, short code):
- Tier 1 — $2,000 per violation: phishing, smishing, social engineering
- Tier 2 — $1,000 per violation: illegal content (must be legal in all 50 states and federally)
- Tier 3 — $500 per violation: other disallowed content, including SHAFT violations and high-spam-report campaigns
Details: T-Mobile Non-Compliance Fees "Sev-0's". The Grey Route ($10/message), Evasion ($1,000/incident), and Text Enablement ($10,000) fees above remain in effect.
